Boating in Henley

Things to do in Summer 2021

It’s usually this time of the year that we start making plans for the summer holdiays. Researching locations, booking flights, hotels and activities months ahead is undoubtedly stressful, and can add both time and financial pressures to our everyday lives. With a UK-wide lockdown in place and no certainty for the months ahead, we suggest a local approach to holidaying this time around – especially if you’re lucky enough to live in the beautiful Henley area.

Staying local helps you avoid risks

Enjoying activities close to home means that you don’t have to plan months ahead. It’s still great to book early, but you’re also likely to find last-minute slots available for most activities. Instead of worrying about losing a large deposit for an international holiday, you can enjoy the slow life and take advantage of the stunning Henley area and all the outdoor activities it offers. Moreover, you will be reducing the risk to your health that comes with traveling and staying at busy hotels. Not only that, but you’ll save yourself the stress of flights, long drives, and endless travel and spend all your time off resting and enjoying yourself.

Flexible cancellation policy

At Henley Boating we have a flexible cancellation policy that accommodates most scenarios. Cruises and boat hires can be cancelled up until a week before the date they’re booked for with no charge to the client. Cancelling between then and the date of the booking will be charged at 50%, and it’s only within the last 24 hours before a booking that clients will be charged at full price even if they cancel. Our cancellation policies are there to protect both sides. We understand how confusing booking ahead can be and we do our best to provide a stress-free way to make plans.

Experience the beauty of Henley with a boat cruise

As a life-long Henley resident, the Thames is our captain Jim’s favourite place for activities. Whether it’s a relaxing day with family, or a chance to spend some time alone, the boat is always a great choice for clearing your mind and connecting with nature. If you’ve never been on a boat cruise in the Henley area, the change of scenery will transport you into another world that you didn’t even suspect existed. The calm sounds of the river on a sunny day and the beautiful Henley wildlife surrounding you on either side, brings a sense of serenity that little else can.

A boat ride is also a great way to enjoy time with people from your household. When it comes to our boats, you can rest assured that we disinfect between cruises and follow all government guidelines. Our boats operate at a 60% capacity to help cruisers keep their distance, and best of all – you can be out in the open, surrounded by fresh air at all times.

Book a boat charter or do it yourself – the choice is yours!

Henley Boating offers a range of options to suit your needs. Our cruises onboard the MV Olympic, (a 1968 Metropolitan Police Launch made by Watercraft of Shoreham), include 2 qualified skippers that can take you on various routes and know the river like the back of their hand. The MV Olympic can accommodate up to 10 people, but during the pandemic, we have limited its capacity to 6 so social distancing rules can be followed between the crew and the cruisers.

As opposed to hiring skippers, you can also choose one of our self-drive boats. Onboard the Whaly 370 and Whaly 435 you get to pick where the river takes you. The boats can accommodate between 4 and 7 people onboard and don’t include a skipper provided by us. Nonetheless, we’re more than happy to help with lots of ideas about routes on the river Thames if you’re not sure where to go.
